Eileen Gray No. 71

SOLD

Code: 12014

An original vintage No 71 desk lamp by Eileen Gray for Jumo.
A wonderful desk lamp of exceptional form, the pressed metal casing to the base & shade in its original factory paint, finished with gilt brass detailing & a chrome flip switch.
A beautiful, iconic piece of mid century design & beautiful untouched original condition.
Eileen Gray (1878 - 1976) began her studies at the Slade School of Fine Art in 1898 & after discovering Asian lacquerware on her trips to the V & A Museum near her home, moved to Paris in 1902 to utilise the technique in her furniture designs. Despite designing several houses & her now iconic ranges of lighting & furniture, she remained largely 'undiscovered' until 1972 at the ripe old age of 94. Original examples of her furniture now sell for millions & her once derelict 'E-1027' house in France is open to the public.
1930's
Wear commensurate with age, unrestored, an extremely good example.
The lamp accepts a single S19 tubular LED bulb.
All electrical items should be checked and / or installed by a qualified electrician prior to use (this lamp came in with the current wiring in place & is in working order).
UK courier service available at £15 tracked & signed for 24 hour delivery.
