A beautiful & highly unusual early antique cast iron strong box / safe.
A wonderful example in thick iron throughout, adorned with large hobnail style rivets & flanked by large brass carry handles, the door with a hinged lock escutcheon. Extremely well made, with it's original key & on an ebonised wooden stand, the door closes tightly & locks with a satisfying 'click'. An unusual, decorative & very original example!
Likely late 18th century.
Wear commensurate with age, good overall, unrestored, lock in full working order.
