A large pair original antique advertising signs for 'Hovis' Bread.
A wonderful & exceptionally original pair of signs, the pressed tin letters mounted on the original metal back-boards supported by their original iron strap-work to the rear. Both the gilt painted lettering and green back-boards have a beautiful age related colour & totally untouched patina as a result of their many years mounted outside a bakery.
These signs would have been wall mounted outside bakeries assigned with making the Hovis loaves using Hovis flour supplied by the company.
The Hovis brand was launched in Macclesfield, Cheshire in 1886 & quickly became the largest supplier of bread in Great Britain.
Wonderfully decorative items & super pieces of history which are becoming increasingly difficult to find!
Early 20th century.
Price is PER SIGN with two available.
Wear commensurate with age, in good, completely untouched original condition, one of the signs has had the letter 'S' reattatched at some point..
Collection in person preferred though UK courier service a possible, please enquire for details (will have to be sent via private courier or Parcelforce 'Large' due to length).
