A wonderful set of Woolworths pick & mix counter scales.
An iconic set of 'Verity Level-Proof' shop scales by Vandome & Hart of London, used to weigh pick & mix in Woolworths stores up & down the country for decades. The scales feature some exceptional engineering, the cast aluminuim body supports it's original pan & tray and retains all of its original imperial weights from 1lb down to 1/4oz cast aluminium sweet scoop. The display window was designed to be seen by both the shop assistant & the customer and has a clear glazed dial & chrome surround.
Between 1909 & 1964, these scales weighed over four tons of sweets in Woolworths, all by & with all the prices worked out using a 'ready reckoner' card used by staff. (Credit: woolworthsmuseum.co.uk which has an interesting write up on these scales!)
1950's
Wear commensurate with age, exceptional untouched condition, all parts original & stamped with their matching serial numbers. The scales have not been tested for accuracy but appear to be in working order (the arrow sits a milimeter or so shy of centre when static).
