A large & exremely heavy duty mine sign in thick iron with its original heavy duty chain & in fantastic layered paint with an good age related patina.
The hammer & pick, the tools traditionally used for breaking rock, together form the heraldic symbol for mines & miners & are also used to mark the location of mines on maps.
A very unusual, masculine & decorative piece.
Mid 20th century
