A wonderful early advertising sign for 'Female Frolicks', an erotic film slide viewing machine.
An exceptionally rare & totally original survivor which would have been mounted above one of the iconic 'Mutoscope' erotic slide viweing machines. After depositing a coin, the viewer would turn hand-crank on the side of the freestanding machine which would in turn start a series of slides featuring partially dressed women, very often depicted from a 'through the key-hole' point of view. They were thus known as the 'What The Butler Saw' machines & although frowned upon during the early 20th century, were considered harmless by the 1940's & 50's.
This example comes beautifully hand painted on thin paper & mounted in its original bull-nose frame with a thick glass plate.
Not something which comes onto the market very often & a great decorative piece!
c1920's
Wear commensurate with age, very good overall, some expected scratching to the original glass, hardboard back a recent addition.
