Way Out / Rockingham Station Timber Railway Sign

SOLD

Code: 10945

Dimensions:

W: 99cm (39")H: 30.5cm (12")D: 5cm (2")

A large & exceptionally rare double sided timber railway sign.
A wonderful antique sign, in thick timber & its original frame with applied cast iron lettering, reading 'Rockingham' one side & 'Way Out' the other.
Rockingham station, Leicestershire opened in June 1850 & was ran by London and North Western Railways and later London Midland and Scottish Railways. It closed in June 1966 & the town is now better known for its motor racing circuit & castle.
A wonderful piece of Great British railway history, very likely a one-off & a fantastic decorative piece.
Early 20th century
Wear commensurate with age, good condition overall. With a few scratches & scars to the paintwork & a couple of exposed screw heads on the letters & possible old repair to one corner (see close up). Paint not recent but not original (these signs were periodically painted whilst in use), could be ex-railway paint but likely later.
UK courier service available at £18 tracked & signed for 24 hour delivery.
