Early Live Pigeon Shooting Trap

SOLD

Code: 10923

Dimensions:

W: 28cm (11")H: 28cm (11")D: 21.5cm (8.5")

A wonderful & extremely rare surviving example of an estate made iron pigeon shooting trap.
Beautifully made with six hinged panels forming a cube, the front panel with a small circular latched door & ventilation holes in the top, all in its original painted finish.
The trap would be filled with live pigeons via the front hatch & a cord would be attatched to the loop on the front. When the shooter called, the cord was pulled from a safe distance away, the cube would then collapse releasing the pigeon who would fly upwards & becoming moving target for the waiting shooter.
A very unusual, interesting & rare surviving piece of shooting memorabilia.
1800's
Wear commensurate with age, untouched original condition. The cube does still fold flat as per images however the hinges are too stiff to allow it to fall open as it once did & a couple of the hinges are cracked (see last two images).
UK courier service available at £15 tracked & signed for 24 hour delivery.
