Code: 10591

Dimensions:

W: 15cm (5.9")H: 12.5cm (4.9")D: 12cm (4.7")

A charming antique wooden shops advertising dispenser for Patons Boot Laces & Twine. A wonderful piece of early advertising which would have been used to dispense boot laces and twine from behind a shop counter. The piece could be displayed to advertise either Boot Laces or Twine depending on the contents & each panel features different imagery & text. The lid has a central hole from which the contents were pulled & cut to length & the inside retains its original rollers. A very rare survivor & a wonderful display piece!
William Paton began manufacturing boot laces & twine in around 1840 when cotton boot laces were in thier infancy with leather laces being the standard choice. Around 20 years later he purchased the Johnstone Cotton Mills to cope with increased demand & continued producing boot laces, twine & fishing nets until his death in 1880 when the business was passed to his three sons.
1900 / 1910
Wear commensurate with age as pictured. The lid has an old crack, the corners have some old naively nailed repairs & one side of the lid has a small non original but historic repair. All part of its history & does nothing to detract.
