An exceptional adjustable milliners hat stretcher.
A wonderful & tactile piece of millinery history in solid hardwood with a cast iron handle, mounted on its original base finished with a polished brass sizing guide strip. Manufactured by Allie Maillard of Paris (maker odf the famous 'Conformateur' hat measuring device), this is by far the best example I've come across & I've bought a a few!
Early 20th Century
Wear commensurate with age, excellent overall & in full working order, mechanism unbelievably smooth, probably owing to the unusual concertina support within the block.
