The Army and Navy Co-operative Society Ltd were formed in 1871 by a group of army and navy officers. It was their initial intention to supply “articles of domestic consumption and general use to its members at the lowest possible rates”. The first store opened on 15 February 1872 at Victoria Street, London. At the end of 1873 a gun department was established & by the end of the 19th century the Society was issuing an enormous annual illustrated price list & were revered for their high quality.

Wear commensurate with age, solid, ready to use & displays beautifully. The top has an old repair top a sliver at the back which doesnt detract & the key does not work as well as it should (I doubt it's the original), it does however go in and out the lock and operate the sprung lever enough to open the door and leave it locked (I'm sure it wouldn't be too much to get a key made by an experinced locksmith but it wouldn't bother me personally as it is)
