A reclaimed 'Eau de Source' water fountain.
A beautiful & exceptionally original survivor, the base retaing it's original vitreous enamel plaque to the front & topped with a cast iron dogs head with lead spout. Covered in the most beautiful lichen & moss and all parts with a wonderful untouched patina with the dogs head exceptionally well cast.
Eau de Source fountains were found across Paris & France in town squares and public places, very often supplying drinking water rather than just being decoarative.
I've seen reclaimed elemets of these before but this is the first complete example I've come across.
Easily up there with my favorite things I've ever bought, an absolute gem.
Early 20th Century
Wear commensurate with age, totally untouched. The moss may well naturally darken now its been brough inside but likely to grow back if it's to be put back outside.
