A beautiful early antique taxidermy starling by James Hutchings of Aberystwyth.
A charming & well executed piece of late Victorian taxidermy, housed in an ebonized & glazed pine case & finished with a paper makers label inside.
James Hutchings began working in the taxidermy trade during the 1860's & became one of the most prolific & well respected taxidermy outfits in Great Britain. They specialized in badgers, foxes, sea birds & birds of prey & more common species of birds by Hutchins are actually extremely rare & do not show up very often.
An unusual, interesting & early case, likely 1870's & a very early example of Hutchings work.
Wear commensurate with age, overall good, 'as found' condition, background appears historically overpainted though possibly original.
