A pair of original No 600 desk lamp by Charlotte Perriand for Jumo.
A super pair, the bases with integrated on / off switches supporting articulated arms & spherical shades, all in the original factory chromed finish.
Iconic pieces of mid century design which display beautifully, particularly as a pair.
Originally designed around 1935, this design was selected by Perriand herself for the 1949 “Le Bazar” exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris.
Charlotte Perriand (1903 - 1999) studied furniture design in the early 1920's at the Central Union of Decorative Arts School in France & soon after graduating, was quickly labelled one to watch. Her designs often reflected the 'Machine Age' & she favoured light-reflecting aluminium and nickel-plated surfaces, a refreshing alternative to the French finely detailed & heavily carved wooden furniture of the period. In 1927, she realised her long time goal of working with the esteemed Le Corbusier & spent a decade working alongside her idol before working alongside more icons of the 20th century, right into her 70's.
Mid 20th century
Wear commensurate with age, early examples with both lamps totally untouched & exceptionally original with both showing wear & tear to the chrome finish in places & the odd light knock here & there as you'd expect.
The lamps takes (preferrably LED) regular bayonet cap bulbs (not supplied, commonly available).
All electrical items should be checked and / or installed by a qualified electrician prior to use (these lamps came in with the current modern rewire in place & are in full working order).
