A glazed haberdashers display cabinet for Harris Tweed.
An early & highly unusual counter-top advertising cabinet or 'show case' as they were then known. The hinged & glazed front contains the original samples of tweed, the top & base of the cabinet are stamped for Harris Tweed Ltd & the rear is fitted with three drawers which would have faced the shop keeper. Originally made in the late 19th century though like a lot of things back then, was still in use as late as the 1950's as the receipts in the drawers from D Ballantyne & Co Ltd will testify!
