A model 1842 Floor Lamp by Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn
A superb piece of lighting & an iconic piece of design by one of the most important European designers of the period, Josef Frank.
A beautifully simple design with the three gently curved legs terminating in ball feet & supporting a central, height adjustable upright & artuiculated shade.
Josef Frank has had an enormous impact on the history of Swedish design. Despite the fact that he was already 50 years old when he fled burgeoning antisemitism for Sweden and Svenskt Tenn, the Austrian architect is considered to be one of Sweden's most important designers of all time.
1950's
Wear commensurate with age, very good condition overall, working order though came in with current (recent) wiring in situ. Max height 147cm.
The plastic shade is probably original (I think!) & although functional, the lamp would be elevated and also personalised using an original Svenskt Tenn shade. These are readily available from the Svenskt Tenn website & come in a range of original Josef Frank designs from lively William Morris inspired naturalistic designs to plain colours.
