A wonderful, scarce early antique comb back Windsor chair. A beautiful & well loved Windsor chair with a wide single plank seat, turned legs & spindles and a high 'comb' back rest. Retaining traces of the original painted finish, this delightful & unbelievably comfortable country chair tells its own story, never waxed or polished, with a charming historic repair to one armrest & a fantastic even amount of wear. Charming rustic & functional with a a great primative look about it.
Late 18th century, likely West Country.
Wear commensurate with age, unrestored condition as pictured showing numerous pleasing signs of age most notably the aforementioned repair to the left armrest (probably a period replacement armrest & done a long time ago, remains completely solid). This chair could be cleaned & polished to bring out the grain of the wood & could be further restorered to improve the repair to the arm & other imperfections though personally I think it would be a real shame to do anything to it at all!
