An oak statioanry cabinet by Houghton & Gunn of New Bond Street, London.
Of the absolute highest quality & in solid oak throughout, the front door drops to reveal the most wonderful fitted interior, again in top quality solid oak with engraved bone labels and tooled leather detailing finished with gilt lettering. The lower part of the cabinet is complete with a hinged, leather bound letter rack and containers for matches ( for working by candlelight), stamps ans a removable glass lined inkwell with brass detailing.
The top right pigeon hole divider controls a mechanism for the 'secret', full-length, spring loaded drawer, when the division is pulled, the drawer reveals itself of the side of the cabinet with reassuring force.
The quality continues to the exterior of the cabinet which is beautifully brass bound in the campaign style & topped with a flush handle.
Just a super thing, absolutely unbelievable quality.
Wear commensurate with age, solid & displays beautifully showing its age in places. All just as it should be though the key is absent however the latch works as it should & is operated by lifting the lock cover. The cabinet is all solid oak though the secret drawer front does have a veneer (would have been veneered to match in the grain) & this does have some chipping as shown (could be re-veneered but personally I like it the way it is!).
UK courier available at £18 tracked & signed (this is a comparitively heavy example).
