A beautiful early 19th century iron banded oak sliver chest.
A wonderful example in thick solid oak bound with iron strapwork & a hinged padlock hasp, finished with brass lock escutcheon & engraved plaque to the front. The oak has gained a beautiful, rich age related colour which is complemented by a fine age related patina, the sides are adorned with early painted 'J' lettering and the top & front panel retain partial wax seals from the days when it was used to hold valuables.
A wonderful piece, showing its age beautifully, would make a fantastic coffee table or end-of-bed blanket box.
Wear commensurate with age, exterior clean & ready to use, inside could be cleaned further & has been left as found with it's layered paper lining very worn. The trunk has clearly had a life & shows numerous pleasing signs of age making it what it is today, two 'runners' (strips of wood) underneath the box have had some work over the years & there is an old repaired crack to the rear panel near the hinge, all now solid & secure.
