Laboratory Counter

A remarkable antique school laboratory counter.
A beautiful & rare English school laboratory counter, the four drawers with their original brass cup handles above a double cupboard with panelled doors & inset brass handles. The pitch pine frontage & iroko top both boast an exquisite depth of colour & patina with the charming old carved graffiti testament to its years of former service in a school laboratory. The centre of the top  retains its original lift-out hatch which once sat over a built in sink & the middle 'drawer' is in fact a hinged flap which allowed access to the lower part of  the sink.
An extremely hard-to-find & handsome piece of industrial furniture.
Early 20th century.
Wear commensurate with age, solid & displays beautifully. The top has a few original holes where the old bunsen burners & taps were once situated & the rear right hand end has a couple of  historic but later pine 'noggins' of wood, likely where the plumbing originally ran through the banks of counters. Ply back panel recent, all other timbers original.
