French Mahogany Shop Counter c1890

A phenomenal Parisian mahogany shop counter.
A beautiful counter & one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of buying, in solid mahogany throughout with the most beautiful depth of colour. The twelve drawers sit in a beautifully made panelled carcass below a generous, overhanging top with a wonderful grain to the timbers & retaining it's original inlaid brass ruler which was used to measure cloth. Previously used in a Parisian haberdashery, the quality of the timber is exceptional, the workmanship to the panelling is flawless & the drawers retain all their original cup handles.
Exceptional quality & of great scale, they don't come any better, would be an absolute dream as a kitchen island.

Wear commensurate with age, solid & displays beautifully, very original & just as it came in. Nothing of ny real note to report, just the usual minor things, a few expected marks / areas of wear to the edges of the top & a couple of the lower drawer runners are little worn so one or two drawers are not as straight as they once were, (runners could easily be relined but I wouldn't feel the need personally). Top raised a few inches at some point & bearers show signs of being lifted.
