A large 17th century carved coffer.
A highly unusual & early example with all original oak panels, the front carved with some wonderful floral detailing to the centre flanked by a fantastic pair of naive stylised lions. With a delightfully untouched patina, the most extraordinary dovetailed joints, finished with its original iron lock cabourchon & hinges & some lovely carved detail running around the inner lip.
A beautiful thing of which we've been able to find very for comparison.
Italy, c1670
Wear commensurate with age, fair condition for a piece of this age, nice & solid with splitting to the lid & several chips, knocks & cracks, inner lock absent, just as you'd expect really. Further images available on request.
