A beautiful period oak dresser base c1680.
A wonderful piece of early oak furniture of fantastic proportions, boasting the characteristic soft sheen, patina & depth of colour found exclusively in oak furniture with considerable age. The base with its twin plank top & turned legs supports two drawers with geometric fronts & brass handles, all boasting a fantastic amount of wear. A charming piece full of character & also very functional.
English, late 17th century
Wear commensurate with age, good solid condition overall, displays beautifully with all the associated knocks, chips & bumps you'd expect from something over 300 years old. As with most pieces of considerable age, it has a few subtle historic additions, some of the inner drawers (sides, backs & rears) are probably later, the top has a couple of non original inserts & one rear leg has had a replacement section to the base. All done a very long time ago & very much part of its past. The handles may too be later additions but are again very early.
