A beautiful early vintage Midland railway signal box block instrument. In solid hardwood with an enamel dial, brass fittings & original internal workings. This early block instrument would have been mounted inside the railway signal box & operated via electrical impulses to send information regarding congestion on the line. A wonderful piece of history & a fantastic display piece.
This particular block instrument does have some provenance. It is thought by the previous owner, an avid railway collector, to have been used in the Mortimer Street Junction Box just north of Kentish Town. It was purchased along with two old photocopied A4 sheets of paper which include photographic evidence which appears to back this up.
Early 20th century.
Wear commensurate with age, good overall condition, completely untouched condition.
