A wonderful pair of antique putti or cherubs.
A beautiful pair of carved wooden cherubs in the original painted finish with gilt wings & reverse painted glass eyes. With some fantastic detail in the paintwork & carving, one head turns to the left & the other to the right & each has a hanging hook to the rear.
Putti & cherubs can be found in religious & secular artwork spanning the last 600 years & experienced a major revival during the late Victorian period.
W 31 x H 20 x D 12.5 cm
Wear commensurate with age, good condition showing a few pleasing signs of age. These would once have formed part of the decoration inside a church or chapel, the hanging hooks are later & each has a small hole to the rear of the head where the original fixing would have been.
