A good example of a Makonde Lipico helmet mask from the Southeast Tanzania / Northern Mozambique region of Africa.
This African helmet mask, carved from a single piece of wood & stained with natural pigments, would have been worn on top as opposed to over the head during initiation & rites of passage ceremonies.
Very decorative & a powerful looking piece!
Early to mid 20th century.
Wear commensurate with age, good condition overall with a couple of non structural cracks to the top of the head which do not detract.
