A very large hand-thrown 19th century terracotta dairy / bread prooving bowl.
A beautiful example of good scale with the most wonderful, charcterful stapled repair running from rim to rim underneath.
Originally used in bakeries & dairies, the thick, rustic terracotta exterior has faded over the years & now contrasts beautifully with the inner glaze, retaining a delighful depth of colour & gloss. A true work of art.
Wear commensurate with age, repair totally stable & has been for a very long time but obviously now limits the bowl to decorative use.
