Full Set of Scottish Carpet Bowls c1870

A full set of antique capet bowls.
A beautiful set of Scottish carpet boules, the hand-finished, glazed Ironstone boules finished with traditional decoration in contrasting colours, complete with the plain white 'jack'.
Popular in Scottish mansions during the 19th century, the object of the game was roll the balls towards the 'Jack' & attempt to leave your bowl closest to it after all players had used their two bowls. The twelve bowls & six colours in this set would have covered six players.
Just wonderful tactile & highly decorative things which look great in a bowl on a table.
