An original Cambridge University presentation oar.
A wonderfully detailed & very decorative presentation oar adorned with gilt calligraphy & Pembroke College insignia, the third oldest college at the Cambridge University. With most of these having been cut down for display purposes over the years, it's nice to find one intact & it makes a super decorative piece.
Any rowing crew which recorded four consecutive 'bumps' were said to have earned their oars & were awarded a presentation oar such as this.
The inscription reads:
