The thick wooden sign is set in it's original frame the decades of exposure to the elements have given the paintwork has a super dry finish & the perect patina.
Charles Griffin and Co. was established in 1852 after Charles, the nephew of John Joseph Griffin, took over the publishing side of the family company (Est 1820). Prior to this acquisition, the business ran as a partnership, also providing chemical apparatus for the science industry. Charles Griffin went on to become sole director of one of the most successful and influential London publishing houses of the era and from this time the firm carried the name of Charles Griffin & Co..
You don't see too many like this anymore, a real statement piece capable of completely transforming an interior space.
Second half of the 19th century, likely around 1870/80
Wear commensurate with age, great overall, totally untouched original condition, paint wonderfully dry in places which adds to the look no end but care does need to be taken when handling as, although not falling off, areas of the paintwork are fragile when brushed or touched.
