A beautiful 19th century natural history collection of nine tropical birds under a glass dome.
A wonderful arrangement of taxidermy specimens featuring a stunning array of colours, perched on a naturalistic 'tree' & all housed in their original hand blown Victorian glass dome. Specimen domes like this were common in the Victorian & Edwardian era & this one is particularly attractive given its layout & resulting negative space which allows the specimens themselves to be the focal point. A super example.
Late 19th century
Wear commensurate with age, a few light marks to the dome, specimens in unusually good order showing a few minor signs of age which do not detract.
