A Victorian entomology chest containing a collection of butterfly & moth specimens.
A wonderful & extremely interesting collection of butterflies & moths housed in eight glazed drawers within its original chest with a glazed door. Clearly painstakingly put together over many years, the collection is the best I've bought to date & features a stunning array of colours with specimens from all over the world. It comes with plenty of original labels & evem some pupae, caterpillers & other bugs ands beetles.
A smashing piece of natural history.
The chest itself dates to around 1890, the specimens from the early to mid 20th century
Wear commensurate with age, expected light damage to some of the specimens which are in good condition overall given their age & fragile nature. The chest has some wear though is good overall but the lock area has been compromised at some point as per last image (it no longer locks, has no key though the does stay closed)>
