A beautiful Victorian taxidermy diorama.
An exceptionally well executed & typically Victorian taxidermy diorama, the ebonized & glazed display case containing a pair of both Rock Ptarmigans & Snow Buntings with a single Ermine in the most phenomenal naturalistic winter setting. The icy, snow covered setting with rocky outcrops is an absolute work of art & is finished with realistic glass icicles with the beautifully preserved specimens in excellent order throughout. The most impressive piece of taxidermy I've ever come across.
Late 19th century
Wear commensurate with age, excellent overall. Small chip to the base of the case & one glass icicle fallen to the base of the case. Makers label to the rear sadly historically overpainted but undoubtably by a noted maker.
Collection in person preferred, UK courier service possible, please anquire for details.
