An early enamel 'Please Do Not Spit' enamel sign.
A wonderful & very rare sign, double sided & in thick blue & white enamel. Harking back to the days when Tuberculoses or Consumption as it ws known then, spitting had been proven to spread the disease & signs like this were commonplace, particularly in smoking areas in which spitting was more likely, hence the rear.
Manufactured by The Garnier Enamel Co of Farringdon St, London & the first example of this early version I've come across in many years.
